How to Remove Makeup Properly by Trish Wallace

Posted by Ann McNelis on

We all know how important it is to take off our makeup, right? But did you know that incorrectly removed makeup can damage your skin? The occasional late night, when makeup removal is far from your mind, can be forgiven but making it a daily habit will have negative impacts on your skin. When makeup is not removed correctly it clogs oil glands and pores, making them appear larger. Over time, collagen starts to break down, meaning pores start to lose their elasticity. This results in open pores and sometimes inflammation, leaving you with blemishes and blackheads.

Makeup remover

So how do you know if you are removing your makeup properly? I recommend using a good quality cleanser such as Kinvara® Absolute Cleansing Oil (RRP: €19.95) or Elizabeth Arden® Ceramide Replenishing Cleansing Oil for more mature skin (RRP: €30.00). Both are designed to completely dissolve even the most-stubborn of makeup by massaging into the skin. Once you have completely applied the cleanser use a warm, damp flannel to remove, leaving your skin refreshed and soft.

Toner

To ensure makeup is completely gone, use a toner. A good toner, such as Elizabeth Arden® Visible Difference Gentle Hydrating Toner (RRP: €23.00), is of great importance as it helps to remove any cleanser residue whilst encouraging your pores to tighten back and minimise.

Importance of night moisturising

I would also recommend using a night time moisturiser. It is so important to use a moisturiser specifically formulated for bedtime as they help to regenerate skin whilst sleeping. New Flawless Future night cream (RRP: €52.00) from Elizabeth Arden® helps to even skin tone, ease the appearance of fine lines and support skin’s own natural collagen.
